Have You Tried All Kinds Of Stop Snoring Devices?
by Andy Austim
Historically, people have tried all kinds of devices to stop
snoring. One old-fashioned remedy is to attach a tennis ball
into the back of a snorer's pajamas, because some people
snore when they sleep on their backs. A popular modern
invention is the sleep strip, which is a device worn on the
nose that opens the nasal passages during sleep. Whether or
not these methods will help your condition depends on the
origin of the problem.
The first step when trying to stop snoring is to consult
with your physician. It is helpful to bring someone
knowledgeable about your snoring to help respond to the
questions your physician may ask. Because you snore when you
are asleep, you may not be able to describe your snoring
accurately. You may not even realize how serious the problem
is.
You partner can discuss how and when you snore and stop
snoring with the doctor to find out the cause. If a person
stops breathing while sleeping it is known as sleep apnea.
This problem can be noticed if a person who snores stops for
a short period while asleep. When a snorer is having a
period of no snoring it can likely be attributed to the
sleeper not breathing.
A stop snoring device called CPAP has been very successful
in preventing snoring. Not only does it prevent snoring, it
keeps those suffering from sleep apnea breathing all night
long by forcing air into the air passageways while they're
sleeping. It works through a special mask that the snorer
wears while asleep.
There are stop snoring devices such as nasal strips which
are designed for the purpose of opening up the nasal
passageways of a person. This helps the person to get enough
air while sleeping. This works for some people. So it is
important to choose a particular solution that works for
you.
Some snorers are mouth breathers which often causes
vibrations in the palate or tonsils to produce the snoring
noises. Stop snoring devices that you place in your mouth at
bedtime can help reduce the snoring. Most dental devices to
stop snoring bring your tongue forward or position your
lower jaw forward while you sleep. This opens up the airways
to allow for better breathing and reduced noise.
Unless sleep apnea is determined to be the cause of snoring,
then it is likely that most over the counter stop snoring
devices can help you. If you tend to breathe through the
mouth while sleeping, these readily available stop snoring
devices may be all you need to stop snoring. - 15668
