The Sonoma Diet is similar to the South Beach Diet. As
with most diets, picking the right food is a big part of the
weight loss challenge. The Sonoma Diet differs from other
plans because it make eating and preparing food an
experience. That is, you are taught not just to enjoy
eating but to enjoy choosing the food as well as preparing
it.
The Sonoma diet plan teaches dieters to appreciate and eat
many types of foods. You'll learn to combine food in new
ways, which keeps the eating experience fresh and exciting.
This idea is stolen from the Mediterranean diet plan. On
this diet boring meeting does not exist. You will build to
choose from a variety of foods and learn to love all kinds
of new foods.
The plan is divided into sections or "waves". The first wave
is the most restrictive. The first ten days or roughly two
weeks of the plan is when the body learns to evaluate food
all over again. The body is purged of high fat, high
calorie, and sugary foods. This has to be taught again since
we live in a society that offers fast food alternatives for
busy people and pre-packaged meals to cut down on cooking
time. Weight loss is drastic during this phase.
Most of it is water due to the change in diet but some is
actual weight loss as well. Dieters learn about the
components of food and why certain ones make people gain
weight. To maintain the loss, dieters have to move to the
next "wave" of the plan.
Second wave is the longest phase of the plan. Dieters will
remain in this phase or wave and tell they succeed with
their weight loss goals. This is very similar to the South
Beach Diet. During this phase there aren't any restrictions
except for the exclusion of high fat and high calorie foods.
Most people grab the largest plate from their cupboards when
they sit down for a meal. Then they fill the plate to
capacity. This is exactly how we end up overheating in
gaining weight. Sonoma diet encourages you to start with a
small plate and fill it with food in very specific
proportions. What you'll learn is that you will feel like
you have enough food if your plate is full. You trick your
mind into believing that even know this plate is smaller
because its full of food you will have enough to eat.
The last wave of the Sonoma diet is the maintenance phase.
Dieters learn how to keep the weight off and continue to
enjoy all of the foods that they grew to love during the
other stages of the plan. The Sonoma diet website offers

menu planners, recipes, and lists of healthy foods to choose
from while on the diet.
Exercise while not a central theme of this diet, is
extremely important. Sonoma diet, however, emphasizes and
focuses on changing the way you eat and removing bad habits
in order to lose weight. My opinion, of course, is that you
can do both. When you add an exercise routine and combine
that with the Sonoma - you will lose more weight, more
quickly than you ever imagined.
